一个人到墨西哥旅游，一天黄昏时他在一个海滩漫步，忽然看见远处有一个人在跳舞似的。走近些时，发现原来是一位土著在沙滩上拾起一些东西，然后用力地拋到海里去，并且重复不停地把拾起的东西拋到海里。
再走近些时，他看清楚原来这土著在不停地拾起由潮水冲到沙滩上的海星，逐只用力地把它拋回大海去。
他于是奇怪地趋前，向土著说：“晚安！朋友，我不明白你在干甚么。”
那人说：“我在把这些海星拋回海里。你看，现在正是潮退，海滩上这些海星全是给潮水冲到岸上来的，很快这些海星便会因缺氧而死了！”
“我明白。不过这海滩有数不尽的海星，成千上万的，你可有能力把它们全部送回大海呢？尽管你真能做到，试想，这海岸有过百的海滩，你又怎能有功夫去处理呢？你可知道你所做的作用不大啊！”
那位土著微笑着，继续拾起另一只海星，一边拋一边说：“但起码我改变了这只海星的命运呀！”
于是他恍然大悟，是呀，虽然有很多我们美好的事情不能去实现，但从现在做起，兴许就改变了一切！
